The server has used the changes made to combat in version 1.9 since last August, so we've had plenty of time to get used to them. However, we can easily see what has happened to PvP areas.

As it stands right now, Terrarium is almost always empty, KitPvP is a ghost town, and Towny arenas are nonexistent. Simply put, it just isn't fun anymore.

I'd like to suggest reverting combat back to version 1.8, without implementing major issues or changes. To start, most combat reversion plugins that are premade are buggy and broken because they're trying to reverse the update. I'd like us to make our own version of this instead. Instead of wasting time trying to reverse useful and practical things like sweeping edge, shields, tipped arrows, and all the rest, why not just remove the attack speed itself? I believe a plugin that sets the attack speed on all swords would be very beneficial to the server and its combat environment.

By doing this, we can attract a larger playerbase by appealing to old combat users and the people who want to use the new blocks and features of the newest updates.

I'm not going to bother arguing about which PvP is more "skilled," but Meep was known as a PvP server for quite some time. We constantly get people who come back from those days. Making just this little change is very simple to do (can even be done with command blocks for crying out loud), and has an enormous amount of potential to appease players.

The other solution would be to attempt complete rebalancing of all PvP areas to account for the changes in combat. Though I like the idea of using 1.9 PvP, I think it'd be better for now to instead lower sword attack speeds in PvP areas. KitPvP probably would use decreased attack speeds on all weapons.

We had a vote thread by Nick where 90% of the people voted 1.8 and nothing has been done about it

You can't just remove the speed delay on weapons, would make axes OP. You need to change axes and swords attack damage or else the pvping would be hard to make fair.

If you read through the entire suggestion, you'll notice one statement I made regarding this.

Wouldn't this make axe pvping useless? I understand the idea but it needs more work then only resetting the attack speed as theres more than only sword in pvp. I do agree with 1.8 pvp but you can't just make swords back to 1.8, you need to add in all other weapons like axes.

I understand your concern in regards to leaving out axe pvp, but there are quite a few issues with trying to adjust the damage on a weapon. Minecraft is insanely buggy when you try to adjust what an item does. By only removing attack speeds on swords, it is a rather simple process that can be created and implemented in less than an hour.

People complain that 1.8 is just spammy clicking which isnt true. 1.9 is literally a waiting simulator
The delay makes god fights in terrarium hella lot longer, meaning it'll take atleast 20 minutes for someone to kill someone if they have god armor and pots, and thats if they dont chicken out and leave the arena.
The server lost players and pvp virtually died when we went to 1.9. Theres only like 4 or 5 people who really pvp still on this servcr
1.8 pvp will probably bring back more players and more pvpers, and it would be great to have more people in terrarium

Axe pvp on here was used to wear down armor, if the attack damage gets lowered it'll still have a use

I used to pvp, but 1.9 pvp now doesn't seem really fun.

Big +1 for me. Currently there exists few avenues for long-term meeble acquisition; i.e: voting, jobs (specifically mining and a few other good ones), and limited, monopolized enchanting. With a renewal of the PvP 'industry', that could give a large section of the MC fanbase access to this underutilized feature on our server, thus increasing retention rates. Furthermore, adding new industry has a ripple effect through the economy; should this take off in the terrarium/player-made arenas, that would really help boost the enchanting industry, especially for armor (thus increasing the diamond price too), and help spur competition.

If this goes through, I suspect there'll be a large number of people calling for /fix again because they're constantly breaking their armor. That was my one complaint back in the day, as it severely limited demand over time, so I think that notion should be rallied against hard.

Its better than what we have at the moment.
The old pvp system was visceral and engaging, the new system is literally so boring.

I vote for keeping the new combat. I know people hate it, but despite all attempts on my part, the old PvP is unmanageable for newer players. Sword duels for me are instead 5 hits to me in a second where I can't even move sense I'be been thrown into the air. I know it may be more exciting for many to not have cool downs, but for some players, the old PvP was (and still is) impossible to use against players.

I believe what you're referring to is more of an ambush style. Granted, the new combat system is better at preventing ambushes, but that is hardly a reason to keep a system that discourages fair fights between duelists. Not to mention, the world's in which you would get instantly killed have many warnings. It's virtually impossible to enter an area with PvP without realizing it is engaged.

If you want to goof off a bit while I show you some tricks to the old combat, msg me in-game. ;)

I like the idea, however it would be really hard/impossible to implement for just swords. In Minecraft, attack speed works on an item level or entity level. Setting the attack speed on an entity level is very easy to do and isn't that laggy as it would only be performed when the player joins. However, setting the attack speed on an item-level would require mass-item editing because there isn't really a way to "globally" set all the attack speeds as it is individually stored on a per-item basis. There are many plugins to change the attack speed on an entity level, such as this one, which is configurable and compatible with 1.11.

Bruh I literally could do it with a single command block. It's not that hard you just apply a single NBT tag to every weapon. (Even the plugin OldPVP does it) Either way bringing back the correct pvp doesn't fix the fact that they're pvping for no reason. What do they spend their money that they earn on? Why bother getting god when the market for it is already dead. The server has no outlets to buy into, and so a pvp economy cannot exist anymore, regardless of the version it's on. Fix the server then fix the pvp, perhaps that might bring back pvpers xd
