The Project - Skyblock Revamp
What is the Skyblock Revamp?
The revamp of the Skyblock world has brought dozens of improvements and a complete gameplay overhaul to the world.
Who’s been working on the Skyblock Revamp?
@xT3Kx has implemented these changes.
@NinjaRoxy has assisted in making these changes as well as formulating ideas.
What was your role on this?
My role was to help xt3kx in anyway possible. Brainstorm ideas together, and got oldchopper to come and build the pvp arena for us. - @NinjaRoxy
How difficult was it to implement?
Most things have gone pretty smoothly. We have made a few changes to prices, as we balance and work out the economy. - @NinjaRoxy
In what way do you see these updates benefitting the server?
They will benefit the server by giving players some fun and interesting enchants, and a way to earn money to make their islands as best as they can be. We have also had new players join meep to play the new skyblock. - @NinjaRoxy
What kind of features were you looking to add to the world?
We wanted to add different things to what we have in towny, to give the players a fun and new experience. The elevators make it a lot easier to get up and down on your island. The new stone generator gives a chance to get ores, which are needed for many things. And the new enchants that are available are fantastic. - @NinjaRoxy
Anything else you’d like to add?
Come try out the new skyblock, it's lots of fun. Make the best island you can and try to get top island! - @NinjaRoxy
Storytime with the Crew - The Parkour Struggle is Real!
The weekly prizes didn’t matter anymore. Onceuponajano trained hour after hour, day after day, week after week in preparation for the annual MeepCraft Speed Run. Her sessions ranged from as little as an hour per day to eight hours per day. She was top of the leaderboards for Jungle, Cactus and Flower, and racing through City, Countryside and Balloon like they were nothing. But one map still stood in her way; one map that could ruin her chances at the title of 2017 MeepCraft Speed Run Champion.
Most of her time was spent perfecting her skills in the first parts of Chillroom, then tediously working her way through the other parts. Some parts were perfect, some parts were a massive flop. But as the day grew nearer, Once thought of the prize, the glory and the title, and redoubled her efforts in Chillroom.
But however hard she tried, her skills and her predictions could not overcome those last three fence jumps right at the end of Chillroom. The three fences, without a safety. The three fences which, if you failed, sent you back to the start of the last checkpoint, a mere thirty jumps back. Once tried again and again to conquer the jumps, but she could not hit the 10,000 Meeble prize sign at the end of the map. The exhaustion and anxiety of the situation was getting to Once, but she was determined not to let it get in her way.
And so the day grew nearer where the competition began. All in all, 32 experienced parkourers had applied for the Speedrun, and Once’s stomach knotted at the sight of some of these competitors. Acceleradiance, creepersareokay, alex77034; they all seemed to be there, and they had a hungry look on their faces. They were ready and raring to go.
The heats began in Jungle. Once watched cautiously as eight Meepers jumped their way through the course. Some missed and had to restart, some continued confidently but managed to find themselves taking a wrong turn. But, however, it seems that one competitor had outrun all of them.
He reached the glowing redstone block with a smile on his face, far ahead of any other player. His time appeared in Once’s chat bar, a yellow time of 28 seconds. A new course record. The other competitors scrambled in after Creepers, each wondering how well they had done, only to see the short line of others waiting for them. Creepers, with his spot in the final firmly secured, sat down in the Parkour Hub and waited for the final to commence.
The other heats whizzed by in a flash. She heard some of the names of the finalists… TimothyJH, Duskmace, Cleaves510, Sackboy000… all of these she had known to be as professionals. She sat, panic-stricken, waiting for her heat to be called.
At last, she heard the unmistakable voice of LordInateur calling out in Global chat, “Heat 8 of the Speedrun. Map – Countryside.” Once’s heart slowed. She was good at Countryside. She memorized the route in her head, prepared herself, and the gates went down.
Once followed her usual route – through the trees, through the house and onto the roof. It was looking to be an easy final placing, when suddenly, she saw a flicker of a skin in the corner of her skin, but then it was gone. And when she looked up, Acceleradiance was in front of her, speeding around the corners with all the skill in the world. Once grunted, and concentrated further on her efforts. Catching up, ever so slightly, but the end was approaching fast. She needed a distraction, and a good one. She eyed a lever on her upcoming right, and jumped as to grab the lever, pull it and land on the next block in one motion. And sure enough, the distraction worked. Acceleradiance was temporarily blinded by the sudden light in front of him, losing his concentration and missing the next block. Once grinned – it was all downhill from here. She hit the redstone block confidently and was happy to see that she was in the final.
Once returned to the Parkour Hub to prepare for the final. It could’ve been any map, any different competitors she was up against, but she forced herself to focus and concentrate. Movement beside her caused her to look up, and there standing beside her was none other than the 2017 MeepCraft Boom-O Champion, MasterOfBoom. A wide grin spread across his face as Once stood up to greet him.
“How are you going, Once?” asked Boom.
“I’m going great, Boom,” she replied, a small red tinge coloring her cheeks. “I made it to the finals on Countryside. Countryside! Can you believe that! And, against Acceleradiance!”
“Wow! That’s no mean feat, I congratulate you,” Boom dropped his voice. “I see you have some fierce competition. But, I reckon you could beat them. 100%, all the way. No matter what map.”
Once grinned, she was proud of the compliment she was receiving. “Thanks, Boom,” she said. “Oh, I think that’s the final – it’s starting! Hurry, I’m going to miss it!”
LordInateur stood there, his tuxedo skin looking smart-casual on the day of the event. He cleared his throat, and started. “The final will take place in Chillroom. No shortcuts allowed, even if you do find any,” he chuckled at his own joke. “Anywho, we will commence shortly. Let us draw for positions…”
Once would’ve given anything to have another five minutes to sort herself out. Chillroom. Of all maps, they had to choose Chillroom. She sighed, and concentrated. Her mind was in the zone. She nearly didn’t hear the starting signal, but when she did, she was off.
Her concentration didn’t lapse throughout the whole map. Once quickly cleared ahead of the whole group, not daring to look back. One player remained in front of her – Creepers. They rounded the corner to Checkpoint 12 in silence, and raced each other through the countless trapdoors and ladders to the end of the map.
Checkpoint 16 came. Once silently groaned. It was the last checkpoint. And the last checkpoint meant the fence jumps. Creepers still remained just ahead of her, it was going to be close. They passed the cactus, the barriers, and they climbed the ladders. And there it was, in all of its glory, the fence jumps. Three terrifyingly-difficult jumps that haunted Once forever. Creepers, being ahead of her, went first. She gasped as Creepers landed the first jump, the second jump…
…but not the third.
It was Once’s turn. Taking a deep breath, she sprinted forward, jumped once, twice, three times….
And came up short.
Creepers and Once tried again and again to complete the fences that so many people had given up on, but neither of them said a word, or considered leaving. This was the 2017 MeepCraft Speedrun Title they were competing for. It was serious.
Once was on the verge of breaking point. She’d had enough, and so had Creepers. They were worried that the rest of the group might even catch up to them. She prepared herself, like she had been for the last five minutes. “Breathe, deep breath. Keep breathing. Now…”
She never finished the thought. A figure in a Steve-lookalike skin raced up the ladder behind them, sprinted towards the fences and jumped once, twice and three times, landing all three jumps successfully. He had finished Chillroom. He had won. The redstone block activated and the Global chat went insane.
The figure looked back at Creepers and Once, and they both gasped. Neither of them had expected this.
The 2017 MeepCraft Speedrun Champion was CluelessKlutz.
